VIDEO DISPLAY DEVICE DISPLAYING SUPPLEMENTARY SIGNAL AT BLACK AREA OF SCREEN AND METHOD FOR DISPLAYING SCREEN THEREOF

PURPOSE: A video display device displaying a supplementary signal at a black area of a screen and a method for displaying the screen thereof are provided to protect a screen state of a video display unit. CONSTITUTION: A user selects a picture ratio conversion mode through an input unit(80). A brightness detecting unit(60) detects a brightness level of a complex video signal being output to a CRT(Cathode Ray Tube)(50). An OSD(On Screen Display)/OSG(On Screen Graphics) generating unit(70) generates a supplementary signal having a brightness level equal to the brightness level of the complex video signal corresponding to the detected brightness level. The generated supplementary signal is fed back to a Y/C signal processing unit(43) to be processed with the complex video signal of the current receiving broadcasting signals. Therefore, the supplementary signal equal to the complex video signal in the brightness level is output to a black area of a wide screen.
