UPPER PLATE STRUCTURE OF PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL

PURPOSE: An upper plate structure of a plasma display panel is provided to achieve increased contrast ratio without causing a reduction in an optical efficiency. CONSTITUTION: An upper plate structure comprises an upper glass(11); a sustain electrode(10) partially disposed on the bottom surface of the upper glass; a bus electrode(9) partially disposed on the bottom surface of the sustain electrode; an upper dielectric layer(8) formed all over the bottom surfaces of the bus electrode, sustain electrode and the upper glass; a protective layer(7) disposed on the bottom surface of the upper dielectric layer; and an electrooptical filter(20) disposed on the upper glass, and which controls a light transmittance of the plasma display panel in accordance with the applied voltage. The electrooptical filter includes polarizer plates(21,23); a lead lanthanum zirconate titanate(22) interposed between the polarizer plates; and electrodes for applying electric fields to the lead lanthanum zirconate titanate in the direction vertical to the light transmitting direction.
