PURPOSE: A fault detecting apparatus for a bearing of a hot rolling roll is provided to increase productivity and to improve quality of articles by preventing a roll bearing from being damaged. CONSTITUTION: A fault detecting apparatus(1) for a hot rolling roll(10) includes a detecting section(20) for detecting a temperature of a bearing, a receiving section for receiving a detected signal, and a machine section(60) for detaching/attaching a roll choke of the receiving section(40) in on-line. The hot rolling roll(10) is mounted on upper and lower chokes(14a,14b) through a bearing(12). The fault detecting apparatus(1) detects a fault of the bearing(12). The detecting section(20) has a thermister(24) covered with a protecting socket and a power source installed at a side of the roll choke for supplying power to the thermister(24) and a lamp.
