PURPOSE: A water injection system of a diesel engine and a control method thereof are provided to maintain the combustion efficiency of an engine by injecting water particles at the optimal injection time depending on the combustion state of the engine and to reduce the emission of smoke and NOx. CONSTITUTION: An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) operates the fuel injection amount with an engine rpm signal and an accelerator pedal open degree signal and the water particle injection amount(S20). The ECU decides the matching of a TDC(Top Dead Center) signal to a cam shaft position signal(S30). The order of water injection cylinders is determined(S40). An engine rpm and an accelerator pedal open degree are compared to a predetermined rpm and a predetermined open degree(S50). Water injection time is determined(S60). Injection time is controlled depending on the water injection amount(S70).
