PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform calibration to assure the uniformity among individual detector elements without requiring a multiplicity of times of scanning. SOLUTION: A calibration phantom system having a first phantom element material block (54) at least partially including a first material (62) having a first surface (58) at a first height (60) and having a first attenuation coefficient and a second phantom element material block (56) at least partially including a second material (68) having a second surface (64) at a second height (66) and having a second attenuation coefficient is provided. The first and second phantom element material blocks are co-positioned on the detector. This method includes a step of obtaining (134) phantom images by imaging, processing (136) the images and extracting (138) a plurality of calibration values from the processed phantom images.
