PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machining method and apparatus, capable of finishing one completed workpiece such as a piston at each end of one cycle, delivering only the finished ones without waiting for completion of a batch, and eliminating the need of resetting a workpiece. SOLUTION: This machining apparatus is provided with a workpiece chuck 2 for holding a workpiece 1, a cutting part 3 for cutting the workpiece 1 held by the workpiece chuck 2, a laser device 4 for quenching the workpiece 1 cut by the cutting part 3 in the state of being held by the workpiece chuck 2, and a polishing part 5 for polishing the workpiece 1 quenched by the laser device 4 in the state of being held by the workpiece chuck 2.
