PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricating oil comprising a secondary alcohol and a secondary alcohol alkoxylate in which addition positions of hydroxy groups or (poly)alkoxylate groups are equalized as much as possible. SOLUTION: This lubricating oil is obtained by equalizing the addition positions of the hydroxy groups of the secondary alcohol or the (poly)alkoxylate groups of the secondary alcohol alkoxylate as much as possible. The resultant lubricating oil having improved compatibility, lubricity and biodegradability can widely be applied to fields such as engine oils, mechanical lubricating oils, hydraulic working fluids, compressor oils, refrigerator oils, metalworking fluids, lubricants for textile processing, lubricants or mold release agents.
