PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that a cyclic alkylene carbonate has to be taken out as a side stream of the gaseous phase of a recovering part and design and operation procedures of an apparatus are difficult with large energy required for separation because a large amount of low-boiling temperature substances is contained in the liquid phase and gaseous phase of an enriching part and a large amount of high-boiling temperature substances is contained in the liquid phase of the recovering part when the cyclic alkylene carbonate is taken out of the side stream during separation by distillation in a method for producing the cyclic alkylene carbonate. SOLUTION: This method for producing the cyclic alkylene carbonate is carried out as follows. An alkylene oxide is reacted with carbon dioxide in the presence of water and a homogeneous catalyst. The cyclic alkylene carbonate is then separated from the resultant reactional liquid by distillation. In the process, a distillation column having a gas-liquid contact part divided into two passages is used and the reactional liquid is fed to the gas-liquid contact part of the first passage. The cyclic alkylene carbonate liquid of≥80 wt.% purity is taken out of the gas-liquid contact part of the second passage. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
