PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a caisson and a construction method of the caisson reducing high lift work and building-up/dismantling work on a site without requiring much waiting time before sinkage and excavation work, and dispensing with the replacement and soil improvement of the weak ground. SOLUTION: This caisson 20 has a workroom slab 23 having a workroom 25 on the lower side, and a caisson skeleton 21 provided on the upper side of the workroom slab 23. The caisson skeleton 21 is constituted by annularly arranging a plurality of cylindrical bodies 21a, 21b and cutting off water between the respective adjacent cylindrical bodies 21a, 21b by cut-off means 36, 37.
