PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an umbrella, capable of enlarging only a required part without increasing size of the whole umbrella. SOLUTION: A cloth part 2 of the umbrella 1 is formed by master ribs 4, 5 and an umbrella cloth piece 8. In the cloth part 2, the umbrella cloth piece 8 is held by seven master ribs 4 formed to have the same length L and one master rib 5. The master rib 5 is formed by a main rib 5a, a sub-rib 5b, and a connecting part 10. The master rib 5 is made longer than the master rib 4 byΔL when the sub-rib 5b is drawn by a connecting part 10. Thus, with the umbrella cloth piece 8 stretched, the position of the top 9 of the umbrella cloth piece 8 held by the master rib 5 is projected outward over the position of the top 9 of the umbrella cloth piece 8 held by the master rib 4. The area of the umbrella cloth piece 8 is increased to be larger than the area of the umbrella cloth piece held by the master ribs formed to have the same length for the increased length of the master rib 5 more than the master rib 4 byΔL. Therefore, when the umbrella 1 is used, the direction of holding the umbrella 1 is varied according to the blow-in direction of wind, rain and snow, whereby the range for covering a person holding the umbrella 1 can be enlarged.
