A method for controlling the boost pressure of an internal combustion engine including an exhaust-gas turbocharger is proposed. In this method, the intake manifold pressure is controlled in such a way that the pressure ratio at the compressor of the exhaust-gas turbocharger does not exceed a limit pressure ratio, which depends on a parameter representative of the air flow rate through the compressor.
