METHOD OF HEATING GLASS PREFORM AND HEATING FURNACE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous operation of a heating furnace used for processing a glass preform and a heating method by which the consumption of shutter gas is reduced.

SOLUTION: The method for heating the glass preform is performed by previously measuring the outside diameter of the glass preform of a material to be heated in the longitudinal direction and controlling the opening diameter of shutters provided in the inlet and the outlet of a heating furnace main body to control the flow rate of the shutter gas supplied into the heating furnace. By the heating method, the heating furnace is continuously operated to improve the productivity and the consumption of the shutter gas is reduced to suppress the production cost.
