PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber, by which the manufacturing efficiency can be enhanced and the transmission loss can be reduced, and an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the optical fiber comprises cooling a bare optical fiber 3 obtained by melt spinning of an optical fiber preform 1 at a spinning furnace 2 and then forming a cover layer on the bare optical fiber 3. The temperature in the spinning furnace 2 is controlled so that the distance in the take-up direction of the optical fiber at a temperature of≥1,000°C becomes≥50 cm and≤1 m. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
