<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a food composition having no possibility of side effect, effective and highly safe and having ameliorating effect of gout and hyperuricemia. <P>SOLUTION: This food composition has as the active ingredient the plant dry material or the extract of the Hamamelis virginiana or the Limonium wrightii O. Kuntze. The edible plants each have an inhibition activity of xanthine oxidase becoming a cause of gout and low toxicity since being derived from natural products. It is a new finding that the dry products and the extracts of the edible plants each have the inhibition activity of xanthine oxidase since the fact has been entirely conventionally unknown. The edible plants each have the superior inhibition activity of xanthine oxidase and are usable as a food for preventing and ameliorating gout and hyperuricemia. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
