A pressure relief valve assembly (10) for releasing fluid through a vent (V) in a railway tank car, tank trucks and similar vessels. A valve disk (16) is normally biased in a closed position by a plurality of constant-force spring s (30) of laminated steel tapes (30a) on drums (32) supported on upright angle brackets (36) symmetrically arranged around a valve seat (14). The pressure at which the valve opens is determined by a preselection of the number of sprin gs (30), laminated tapes (30a) per spring (30), and the restoring force of each tape (30a).
