<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alcohol derivative on an industrial scale at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The method for the production of the alcohol derivative comprises the reaction of a cyclic ether compound with a phenol derivative in the presence of a racemic complex produced by reacting a Lewis acid with a racemic metal complex expressed by general formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>8</SP>are each independently an alkyl or the like; R<SP>9</SP>to R<SP>12</SP>are each independently a 1-4C lower alkyl or the like; either one of the sets of R<SP>9</SP>and R<SP>11</SP>, R<SP>9</SP>and R<SP>12</SP>, R<SP>10</SP>and R<SP>11</SP>, and R<SP>10</SP>and R<SP>12</SP>may be bonded with each other to form a tetramethylene group provided that the groups of the remaining sets are each hydrogen atom; Q is single bond or the like; M is a metal ion; and A is absent when the ionic value of the metal ion is equal to the coordination number of the ligand or A is a counter ion or a ligand when the ionic value is different from the coordination number). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
