PROSTHESIS WITH RESORBABLE COLLAR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prosthesis for optimizing the degree of pressurization of cement while rendering initial and final stem positions. SOLUTION: The articulating hemiarhthroplastic prosthesis 10 for use in arthroplasty is provided. The prosthesis has a stem 12 implantable at least partially within the medullary canal 14 of a long bone 16. A collar 20 is operably associated with the stem 12 and extends outwardly therefrom. At least one portion of the collar 20 consists of a resorbable material. The prosthesis has a head 30 and a cup 46 engageable with the head. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
