PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal joint for steering device capable of affording a smooth steering feeling by securely preventing occurrence of abnormal noise due to a collision of a shaft part of trunnion cross with needles and decreasing the bending torque of a steering shaft without causing a sharp rise in manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: In the universal joint 101 for the steering device assembled interposing needles 10 and a bearing cap 9 between an outside rolling contact surface 61 of the trunnion shaft 6 and an inside of a bearing bore 4, the bearing bore 4 is provided with a tapered inner face 41 which is a large diameter part 412 at the outside of a yoke and a small diameter 411 at the inside of it, and the small diameter part 411 equals the outside diameter of the bearing cap 9 before assembling or a slightly small diameter.
