PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wiper device for an automobile capable of securing a clearance necessary for the wiper device displacing along with an impact load from the upper part. SOLUTION: This wiper device for the automobile is so constituted that a driving source fixed to a frame member, which connects between a pair of right/left pivot holders, swings a pivot shaft pivoted to the pivot holders via a link mechanism comprising a plurality of rods and links. The driving source is set to a normal/inverse rotation type in which its rotation output shaft alternately repeats the inversion. The rotation output shaft is provided with an arm member connecting the driving source to the link mechanism attached to its lower end in such a form as extending frontward the driving source. The arm member is connected and disposed with the link mechanism in its upper surface and the pivot shaft is swung by reciprocating the link mechanism in the car body width direction in the front side of the driving source in operating the driving source.
