PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily change a system constitution for correcting a defective pixel in increase/decrease of the number of pixels of a solid-state image pickup element. SOLUTION: In an initial inspection, defect detection processing for the solid- state image pickup element is performed, a defect number is attached to the detected defective pixel, and defect information (a defective part and a defective level) is successively stored in a memory space block 10. Then, in image output processing, whether the pixel number of an image pickup pixel read sequentially is stored in the memory space block 10 is judged, and in the case that it is stored in the memory space block 10, the pixel signal of the defective pixel is corrected by using the defect level, the pixel signal before correction is replaced with the pixel signal after the correction, which is then outputted. In such a manner, the defective pixel is corrected by using the defect information stored in the memory space block 10 and image signals after the correction are sent out to output equipment.
