PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately observe a surface of a signal recording tape by a microscope, in the state that cupping of the signal recording tape in a breadthwise direction is suppressed without requiring the cut-off of the signal recording tape. SOLUTION: A magnetic tape MT which is the signal recording tape, is observed by the microscope M in the state arranged on an electrostatically charged stage 2. When the magnetic tape MT is continuously observed, a signal recording tape observation device 1 constituted so that the surface of the magnetic tape MT is observable on a stage surface 2a, is used by laying the magnetic tape MT over the stage surface 2a of the charged state 2 which is provided with a convex curved face formed to the specified shape looking from one direction as the stage surface 2a, in the process of taking up the magnetic tape MT fed out from a supply reel 4 by a take-up reel 3.
