PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet original reader which eliminates a malfunction such as floating of an original to enhance reading precision by setting a positional relation between a contact glass upper face and nip parts of respective pairs of transport rollers disposed respectively upstream and downstream the contact glass to the same height in the sheet original reader which uses a fixed image read means to read an image on a sheet original transported along the contact glass upper face. SOLUTION: In this sheet original reader provided with the image read means 2 that is still to read the image, the contact glass 3 fixedly disposed at a reading part 2a side of the image read means and for making the original pass along the upper face, a pair 4 of upstream transport rollers and a pair 5 of downstream transport rollers disposed upstream and downstream respectively in the transporting direction of the original sandwiching the contact glass, the respective nip parts N1 and N2 of the pair of upstream transport rollers and the pair of downstream transport rollers are arranged on the same plane as that of the upper face of the contact glass.
