<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a ketone, by which a phase transfer catalyst is not used but a readily preparable catalyst is used and a secondary alcohol is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the ketone represented by formula (2) (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a same or different alkyl group which may be substituted, or the like) comprises reacting a secondary alcohol represented by formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each as shown above) with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst obtained by reacting hydrogen peroxide with at least one kind selected from the group consisting of tungsten metal, molybdenum metal, a tungsten compound composed of tungsten and an element of the group IIIb, the group IVb, the group Vb or the group VIb except oxygen and a molybdenum compound composed of molybdenum and an element of the group IIIb, the group IVb, the group Vb or the group VIb except oxygen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
