<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition having a strong prophylactic or therapeutic activity for osteoporosis, hyperlipemia, diabetes, or the like, from Hachimi-jio-gan (a Chinese herbal formula comprising Rehmanniae Radix, Alismatis Rhizoma, or the like) and a prophylactic, a therapeutic agent and a food for health use comprising the composition as an active ingredient. <P>SOLUTION: The composition comprises a fresh plant, a dry plant or an extract of at least one species of plant selected from the group of plants of the genus Rehmannia of the family Scrophulariaceae, the genus Cornus of the family Cornaceae, the genus Diosorea of the family Discoreaceae, the genus Alisma of the family Alismataceae, the genus Poria of the family Polyporaceae, the genus Paeonia of the family Paeoniaceae, the genus Cinnamomum of the family Lauraceae and the genus Aconitum of the family Ranunculaceae and at least one species of plant selected from the group consisting of the genus Angelica, the genus Ligusticum and the genus Levisticum of the family Umbellifereae, the genus Salvia of the family Labiatae, the genus Panax of the family Araliaceae, the genus Codonopsis of the family Campanulaceae and the genus Atractylodes of the family Compositae.
