PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel assembly having superior foreign matter trapping performance and less pressure loss. SOLUTION: A network portion 7 of a lower tie plate 5 has an insertion hole 13 in which the lower part of lower end plugs 11, 12 is inserted for holding a fuel rod 2 and a water rod 3 in mutually spaced relation and has a flow path through which a cooling material passes. A side wall portion 8 of the lower tie plate extends downward from the periphery of the network portion to form a lower tie plate cavity 9 in the lower part of the network portion and has an inlet opening 10 at the lower end. A partition member 30 has a partition member opening 32 and is horizontally arranged at the lower part of the network portion in the lower tie plate cavity for partitioning the lower tie plate cavity into upper and lower ones. Cylindrical filters 42 are mounted at the lower parts of the lower end plugs with its lower end open to the partition member opening and its upper end closed to the extent that at least foreign matter in the cooling material cannot pass through.
