PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a conventional image display device that is susceptible to burning at a border between a screen part of a movie signal and black stripes when using a movie mode for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The image display device displays black stripes on which no video is displayed on the upper and lower parts of the screen because the image display device displays the video image with an aspect ratio of 9:16 laterally long in comparison with the screen shape of a CRT 30 in the movie mode. Since the image display device displays the video image in a way of causing a wave to the border between the video display and the black stripes in this case, the image display device can suppress production of the burning at the border without giving a sense of incongruity to a viewer even in the case the movie mode is used over a long period of time.
