<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can secure a certain degree of visibility even under a bright operating environment. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 has a liquid crystal cell 15 holding a liquid crystal layer 27 between a counter substrate 3 and an element substrate 2, and a backlight 18 arranged at the outer surface side of the liquid crystal cell 15. An upper polarizing plate 20 is provided at the outer surface side of the counter substrate 3, and a lower polarizing plate 23, a reflective polarizing plate 24 and a hologram sheet 25 are provided between the element substrate 2 and the backlight 18 in this order from the substrate side. A reflector plate 29 is provided at the outer surface side of a light transmission plate 16 of the backlight 18. The hologram sheet 25 transmits light within a low angle of incidence range with high transmittance, and deflects light within a high angle of incidence range by diffracting or scattering it. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
