PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of emission and to advance convergence to a target air-fuel ratio in air-fuel ratio feedback control by sliding modal control. SOLUTION: It is determined whether or not a control direction of the feedback control matches with an actual air-fuel ratio changing direction (S1), and when they do not match, setting of a feedback controlled variable is prohibited.
