The obstacle (O) avoidance assist method for a motor vehicle driver uses a circuit (12) which automatically stops fuel injection to the engine and operates the vehicle brakes. The vehicle controls are monitored while the braking system is in operation to determine if the driver intends to deactivate the systems and deactivates them.
