The recoil simulator for a firearm with a stock (1a), a barrel (2a) with a vent (9), a percussion element (3a) for a cartridge (4) and a thrust receiver (5a), comprises an impulse transmitter (6a) and a kinetic energy storage member (7a) in the form of one or more inertia flywheels. The thrust receiver is in the form of a mobile piston sealed in the barrel and can be integral with the cartridge, while the impulse transmitter is fitted with a return spring (11). An energy dissipater, operated automatically or by the firearm user, slows the flywheel(s) to prevent reverse recoil.
