PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin barrier function-reinforcing agent which can reinforce the barrier functions of the skin and can prevent and improve lesions caused by various stresses added from ambient environments to the skin, and to provide a skin care preparation.

SOLUTION: This skin barrier function-reinforcing agent is characterized by containing one or more epidermal cell-activating agents and one or more antioxidants. The combined employment of the active ingredients enables the enhancement in potency for resisting to the stresses of epidermal cells. When one or more ingredients selected from cholesterol, phytosterol and their derivatives are together used, the skin barrier functions can further effectively be enhanced.
