PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television signal processing apparatus at a transmission side that superimposes a multiplex signal on a frequency band of a television signal of an existing analog television broadcasting to broadcast the resulting signal and can transmit the multiplex signal at a higher speed than that at television broadcasting when the current television broadcast operation is abolished. SOLUTION: The television signal processing apparatus superimposes a signal, resulting from applying carrier trap double sideband amplitude modulation to a carrier whose frequency is the same as that of a video carrier of television broadcast and whose phase is in an orthogonal relation to that of the video carrier by the multiplex signal, onto a television signal obtained by applying vestigial sideband modulation to the video carrier, and transmits the resulting superimposing signal when the existing television program is broadcast. The television signal processing apparatus transmits the multiplex signal subjected to broadband modulation by a third modulator 114 so that the occupied band of one channel has a wider band than the band of the multiplex signal modulated by a second modulation means when the current television program broadcasting operation is abolished.
