PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, with simple operation and at a high yield, tetrakis(2,4-di-t- butylphenyl)-4,4'-biphenylenediphosphonite containing≤5 ppm 2,4,6-tri-t- butylphenol or a polymer stabilizer composition composed mainly of the biphenylenediphosphonite, wherein the 2,4,6-tri-t-butylphenol has high toxicity and is hardly removable. SOLUTION: The 2,4,6-tri-t-butylphenol containing tetrakis(2,4-di-t- butylphenyl)-4,4'-biphenylenediphosphonite and a polymer stabilizer composition composed mainly of the biphenylenediphosphonite are obtained by being treated with distillation under a reduced pressure in an inert gas.
