METHOD FOR PRODUCING NORBORNENE-BASED POLYMER AND NORBORNENE-BASED POLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for polymerizing a norbornene-based monomer by using a ruthenium-based metathesis polymerization catalyst to provide a polymer having excellent surface smoothness. SOLUTION: This method for producing the norbornene-based polymer by polymerizing the norbornene-based monomer by using the ruthenium-based methasesis polymerization catalyst satisfies at least one condition of (a) having a step for starting the polymerization by keeping the monomer and the catalyst at the temperature not lower than the freezing point of the norbornene-based monomer and not higher than 30°C, or at the temperature from 70°C to 140°C for at least 30 min, and (b) using the norbornene-based monomer having≤1 wt.% content of uncrosslinkable cycloolefin-based monomer.
