PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moldable high molecular weight copolymer composition having a high strength by using a monosaccharide or a polysaccharide having a hydroxy group and a carboxy group or a salt thereof derived from a natural product as a polyfunctional central compounds, and directly polycondensing the monosaccharide or the polysaccharide with a compound having a hydroxy group and a carboxy group, and further to provide a method for producing the copolymer composition. SOLUTION: This copolymer resin composition is obtained by subjecting (A) the monosaccharide or the polysaccharide having the hydroxy group and the carboxy group or the salt thereof, and (B) at least one kind selected from the group consisting of (b1) a hydroxycarboxylic acid, (b2) a polyhydroxycarboxylic acid, (b3) an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol and an aliphatic polybasic acid, and (b4) an aliphatic polyester of the aliphatic polyhydric alcohol and the aliphatic polybasic acid, to dehydration polycondensation reaction. Alginic acid is preferable as the monosaccharide or the polysaccharide having the hydroxy group and the carboxy group. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
