PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary machinery belt system for an internal combustion engine and a belt tension adjusting device capable of securely providing a belt with a large belt tension required when starting an engine and providing the belt with a proper tension required for driving an auxiliary machinery pulley by a driving force of the engine after starting the engine by one auto- tensioner. SOLUTION: In this auxiliary machinery belt system for the internal combustion engine, the belt tension adjusting device 12 is constituted in such a way that a control part 17 receiving an electric signal from a starter motor 8 serving also as a generator outputs a control signal to an actuator 16 to elongate the actuator 16 and energizes a belt tension adjusting pulley 11 toward a position shown by a broken line X when starting the engine 10. On the other hand, the actuator 16 is in a non-driving condition, and the belt tension adjusting pulley 11 is movable to give a predetermined tension smaller than a tension applied when starting the engine to the belt 7 after starting the engine 10.
