<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device which can provide a bright and contrasty display state in both transmission mode and reflective mode. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 10 has a liquid crystal layer 3 held by a pair of substrates 1 and 2, and a region which is used for a display in the liquid crystal layer 3 has at least two different thickness of liquid crystal layer. Each region having the different thickness of liquid crystal layer is used as a reflective display part R and a transmissive display part T. A reflecting layer 16 which can reflect incident light, and a translucent scattering layer 22b which is translucent and can scatter the incident light, are formed in the reflective display part R of the two display parts R and T. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflective display part R is reduced more than that in the transmissive display part T on the basis of the formation of translucent scattering layer 22b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
