<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate rubbing treatment unevenness when a counter substrate 1 is subjected to rubbing treatment, generated in association with high pixel density of a liquid crystal display panel and causing alignment unevenness of a liquid crystal. <P>SOLUTION: When the counter substrate 1 is manufactured, a recessed part 11 having prescribed depth is provided in a transparent substrate 10 and a light shielding film 20 is deposited in the recessed part 11 having prescribed depth so as to have the same plane as the transparent substrate 10 to flatten an alignment layer to be formed on the counter substrate 1.
