<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the travel speed of a tape with high precision. <P>SOLUTION: One signal recorded on the tape is reproduced by a reproducing head H1 which is installed upstream in the travel direction of the tape and a reproducing head H2 which is installed downstream respectively and after the reproduced signal detected by the reproducing head H2 is shifted by a specified time, calculation of autocorrelation with the reproduced signal detected by the reproducing head H1 is carried out to find the intensity of the autocorrelation signal. The travel speed of the tape is found from the autocorrelation signal intensity by reference to a speed conversion table 14 showing the relation between the previously found autocorrelation signal intensity and the tape travel speed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
