ELECTRIC-ARC HEATING METHOD

FIELD: electrometallurgy; metal heating in ladle. SUBSTANCE: method includes electric-arc heating of metal in ladle with aid of three graphitized electrodes inserted in three-phase transformer circuit and displaced over single cross- arm. Each phase voltage across arcs is periodically measured, least measured value of phase voltage is compared with desired value, and basing on results of comparison cross-arm is displaced until error signal between desired and measured voltages disappears. Steady arc ignition and burning is maintained by means of additional low-power high-voltage and high-frequency supplies inserted in circuit of each phase. Proposed method prevents electrode-to-metal and electrode-to-fettling shorting and reduces metal carbonization. EFFECT: enhanced output and reduced cost of metal. 2 cl
