PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device with simple circuit construction, which is easy to mount, suitable for miniaturization by using a small wiring board, and controlling the discharge lamp in optimum operating state corresponding to the temperature affected by the lighting of the discharge lamp, and to provide a luminaire using the same. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device comprises switching means Q1, Q2; a load circuit LC having a resonance inductance L2 and a resonance capacitor C4 connected in parallel with the discharge lamp; a drive resonance circuit DRC composed of a feed-back winding s feeding back a current flowing through the load circuit LC, and a drive resonance inductance and a drive resonance static capacitor C5, constructed so that at least either the drive resonance inductance or the drive resonance static capacitor changes its constant corresponding with the change of temperature due to the lighting of the discharge lamp, and resonating to a feed-back voltage generated at the feed-back winding s; and a feed-back type driving signal generating circuit DSG alternately turning on the switching means Q1, Q2 depending on the resonance voltage of the drive resonance circuit DRC.
