PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To seize the change of positions reached by the tips of inserted weft yarns in a loom, and properly control the weft insertion based on the change. SOLUTION: A weft detector 26 is arranged in the range of the changes of the positions reached by the inserted weft yarns 3 at the opposite side of the insertion from the selvage of a woven fabric 24. The method for multiplying the number of the detected weft yarns multiplies the number of the detected weft yarns detected by the weft detector 26 over a prescribed number of weft insertion picks under operation of the loom. The method for controlling the weft insertion corrects the weft insertion condition of the weft insertion apparatus 2 based on the number of the detected weft yarns multiplied above.
