<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a counterweight and its recycling method superior in workability, reducing a manufacturing cost, and capable of preserving an environment. <P>SOLUTION: Slag generated in an iron manufacturing process or the metal content included in a residue of a waste treating melting furnace is used as a weight material of the counterweight 10. The recycling method of the counterweight 10 has a removing process of removing an outer shell body 15 of the used counterweight 10 of using the magnetizable metal content as the weight material, a releasing crushing process of crushing a filler including the metal content of the counterweight 10 of removing the outer shell body 15, and releasing a joining state of the metal content and the other filler, and a selecting process of selecting a treating material in the releasing crushing process into a high specific gravity material and the other low specific gravity material composed mainly of the metal content.
