VCM CONTROL SYSTEM AND MAGNETIC DISK STORAGE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the seeking operation and following operation of a magnetic disk by VCM (voice coil motor). SOLUTION: A digital control value generated based on the difference between the position of the magnetic head and a desired recording track position is converted to analog controlled voltage by a D/A converter 28 to control the driving current of the VCM 16 for move-driving the magnetic head by this controlled voltage. In the case of seeking for moving the magnetic head between tracks, the converting gain of the D/A converter 28 is set to be high to expand the oscillation range of the driving current. In the case of following for making the magnetic head follow the desired recording track, the converting gain is set to be low to improve the controlling resolution of the driving current.
