A swivel joint (20; 100; 110; 120; 130) according to the present invention includes first and second base members (30A; 32A; 104A; 114A; 129; 136). A spider (34; 60; 70) includes first and second arcuate surfaces (36, 38) which form joints with the first and second base members (30A, 32A; 104A; 114A; 129; 136), respectively. Furthermore, the spider (34; 60; 70) includes first and second pins (40A, 40B) both opposed from each other and third and fourth pins (42A, 42B) opposed from each other. A first mechanism (30B, 30C, 30D; 102; 112; 122; 132) is coupled to the spider (34; 60; 70) and the first base member (30A; 104A; 114A; 129; 136) and is adapted to effect a force between the first arcuate surface (36) and the first base member (30A; 104A; 114A; 129; 136). Also, a second mechanism (32B; 32C; 32D; 102; 112; 122; 132) is coupled to the spider (34; 60; 70) and the second base member (32A; 104A; 114A; 129; 130) and is adapted to effect a force between the second arcuate surface (38) and the second base member (32A; 104A; 114A; 129; 136). |
