<p>A multi-level optical recording medium capable of correcting affect by the in-plane fluctuation of characteristics of a recording layer. The multi-level optical recording medium has at least a recording layer (12) and can perform multi-level recording by controlling in multiple steps the state of the recording layer (12). A plurality of calibration signals are stored in the recording layer (12). This enables the drive side to detect and correct in-plane fluctuation of the recording layer (12). Accordingly, even when in-plane fluctuation is present in the recording layer (12), it is possible to accurately read out data which has been multi-level recorded.</p> |
