PURPOSE: A method for performing a locking function using an SMS(Short Message Service) is provided to analyze a short message when the short message is received, and to perform the locking function if a locking function performing character string exists, thereby preventing other party from using a mobile communication terminal when the terminal is lost. CONSTITUTION: A controller of a mobile communication terminal inputs a locking function canceling password through a key input unit, and stores the inputted locking function canceling password(S110). The controller inputs a character string for performing a locking function through the key input unit from a user, stores the inputted character string, and inputs a kind of the locking function to store the locking function(S112). When a short message is received, the controller analyzes the received short message, and performs the locking function if a locking function performing character string exists(S114).
