PURPOSE: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for a vehicle is provided to effectively purify incompletely burned hydrocarbon by performing a detaching work of hydrocarbon at a hydrocarbon trap. CONSTITUTION: A first catalyst section(11) made of three-way catalyst is formed at an exhaust side of an engine(10). A second catalyst section(12) is formed at a rear end of the first catalyst section(11) in order to collect and purify incompletely burned hydrocarbon. The second catalyst section(12) has a first carrier part(13), a second carrier part(14) made of a hydrocarbon trap, and a third carrier part(15) made of three-way catalyst as to purify and treat hydrocarbon detached from the second carrier part(14). A valve(17) is installed at an inlet of the second carrier part(14). An auxiliary passage(16) is formed between an outlet of the first carrier part(13) and an inlet of the third carrier part(15).
