Production of ceramic layers on and/or in porous support bodies, comprising: (a) contacting a porous support body completely or partially with a first liquid, preferably water or an aqueous solution; (b) contacting with a second liquid containing an organometallic compound; (c) drying; and (d) sintering, is new. Preferred Method: The porous support body is made from a fine porous ceramic material. The first liquid contains alcohols. The reaction speed and layer thickness are controlled via the viscosity and reactivity of the second liquid. The porous support body is initially impregnated with an aqueous alcohol solution and then contacted with an organometallic compound. Both liquids are reacted within 1 second to 24 hours in and on the porous body.
