PURPOSE: A method for fabricating a plastic optical fiber and a fabricating apparatus thereof are provided to improve the quality of the plastic optical fiber by collecting the sooty smoke due to a heating process of a heater coil and fine particles due to a melting process of a plastic preform. CONSTITUTION: A plastic optical fiber preform is inserted into the inside of a furnace and a heater coil is heated(100,101). The remaining gases and fine particles are removed from the inside of the furnace by injecting an inert gas around the plastic optical fiber preform(102,103). The negative ions and the wind are generated by discharging a focusing electrode in a melting process of the plastic optical fiber preform(104,105). A collecting process is performed to collect the sooty smoke due to the heating process of the heater coil and the fine particles due to the melting process of the plastic preform by using the negative ions and the wind(106-109).
